Recipe Pro-Tips
Use a mix of apples. Combining sweet and tart varieties gives your applesauce balanced flavor — not too sugary, not too tangy.
Mash to your perfect texture. Go chunky with a potato masher or smooth with an immersion blender — either way, you control the consistency.
Adjust the sweetness. I add sugar from the start if I know I want a sweeter sauce. For a no-sugar version, simply leave it out — or taste the sauce before mashing and stir in sugar to taste.
Don’t skip the lemon juice. It brightens the flavor and keeps the applesauce from turning brown.
Blend while warm. Warm apples puree more evenly, so grab your blender before the sauce cools.
