Recipe Pro-Tips
Don't over-muddle. Press the berries, lime, and mint until juicy and fragrant. Any further and you risk overworking or bruising the mint, causing it to taste bitter.
Strain. Although a few bits of blackberry are fine, you want to strain the cocktail after shaking to keep it from being chunky and hard to drink.
A note on glassware. A highball glass is best to accommodate the cocktail mixture with ice, but you can use a large rocks glass if needed or if you prefer less ice.
Cool the glass. Chill the glass in the freezer for 15-30 minutes before assembling to help keep the smash cool, preventing the ice from melting and diluting it.
